An indoor/outdoor museum of natural and human history, taonga Mäori, live flora and fauna, historic buildings, early industrial machinery and 3km working railway.
Set on a sub tropical bush-clad 25 hectare park including a nocturnal Kiwi house, 1886 kauri homestead, 1859 chapel, 1900s school room, native bird recovery centre, astronomy society and vintage machinery restoration clubs.
