Auckland Pride 2020
Following its successful 2017 tour, New Zealand's most flambuoyant festival 'Auckland Pride' is back to celebrate a lineup of fascinating events this February 2020.
Launched in 2013, the Auckland Pride Festival is an empowering fete committed to continue what has been an all-encompassing tradition—connecting, liberating and celebrating cultural and sexual diversity. It aims to showcase the breadth of talent our queer communities have to offer—featuring an array of fabulous events year after year. Since its debut, 'Auckland Pride' has reached thousands of people across Aotearoa, making it as the country's largest Pride festival.
The first key dates for 2020 are:
- February 1: Auckland Pride Gala
- February 8: OurMarch
- February 8: OurParty
- February 9: Ending HIV Big Gay Out
- February 14-15: Same Same but Different Writers' Festival
The event commences with a spectacular 'Auckland Pride Gala', a vibrant activity that brings queer artists together for a fabulous evening of performance and celebration. Auckland Pride Chair, Cissy Rock is "thrilled about the return of the 'Gala' to the festival programme. With a refreshed vision, a more queer dress code and more accessible tickets, the 2020 'Pride Gala' will once again be a highlight of the festival and one you won't want to miss out on!"
The opening night will be followed by the trailblazing 'OurMarch' event. Introduced last February, this community march has successfully turned spectators into participants, thanks to its fun and energetic vibe. For 2020, 'OurParty'—a fun-filled post-march event with more food, more entertainment and more space—will be included in the already announced activities.
Rounding up the first set of key events for Auckland Pride 2020 are two amazing community-led activities 'Ending HIV Big Gay Out' and 'Same Same but Different Writers'. "Community events are at the heart of Pride," says Pride Director, Max Tweedie. "'The Big Gay Out' draws more than 10,000 people to Coyle Park for a fun, fabulous, family-friendly day of celebration and plays a vital role in the festival. 'The Same Same but Different Writers' festival is an excellent showcase of the literary talent in our queer communities, and over the past three years has delivered bold events, strong attendance and stimulating conversations."
Come join Auckland Pride's enthralling feast and celebrate love in all its colours next year!
