Explore the tranquil surroundings of a village showing life in Auckland from 1840 to 1880.

Howick Historical Village is a living museum, where costumed staff tell the story of nineteenth century settlers who came out here as fencibles, ready to defend Auckland from attack. Thirty original buildings have been preserved and brought to this 7 acre site in Pakuranga's Lloyd Elsmore Park. Each of the cottages tells a different story of immigrants who travelled halfway round the world, and their struggles to build a new life.

The museum is a popular venue for a wide range of local activities, from corporate workshops, plays and music recitals, to special family celebrations. For many years, the little church has seen weddings celebrated within its walls, and many photographers have enjoyed using the picturesque backgrounds within the Village. Visitors can relax and enjoy the wonderful food baked here in the kitchens of the Homestead Cafe.

On the third Sunday of every month (except December) there is a Live Day, which is a great time to bring family and friends along to soak up the atmosphere of a bustling Victorian settlement.

Hours: Open daily from 10am to 4pm all year. Closed on Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day.
