Brown Skin Girls. Pearls of the Pacific. Portraits come to life.

Rosie Roaché returns to Dunedin Fringe for her second project, this time with a stronger, more personal message - Brown Skin Girls. Portraits come to life as her muses dance and sing amongst their frames in this new, interactive photography exhibition. The University of Otago student was inspired after attending Creative NZ's 2023 Nui Te Kōrero conference in New Plymouth, saying that "Being surrounded by so many amazing creative Pacific female artists gave me inspiration to base my next project on the concept of beautiful brown skin girls."

Rosie's goal for the exhibition is for her two worlds to finally collide - the world of Dunedin arts, and her Pacific community; a collision she believes is long overdue.

"My hope for this project is that by merging my greatest loves - photography, music and dance - with my love for my Pacific culture, members of the Dunedin arts community and members of the Dunedin Pacific community will come together. All in all, I want to showcase Pacific culture through art so that it is not only celebrated, but immortalised."
