Everybody knows and loves Vivaldi’s ageless portrait of the changing round of the year. Less well known, but equally loved by his fans, is the take on it by the Argentinian tango maestro Astor Piazzolla. In this concert northern and southern hemispheres collide.
Hearing a Vivaldi season juxtaposed against a Piazzolla one illuminates both in surprising ways. Andrew Beer, doing double duty as soloist and director, takes us once around the sun.
