The Legend of Qu Yuan
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. The evolving nature of this ancient festival is evident in its varying origin stories, customs, and names.
We celebrate this event as The Legend of Qu Yuan, an opportunity to commemorate the life and legacy of the poet and scholar, Qu Yuan.
Friday 3 June | 5pm – 8pm
Enjoy the beauty of Lan Yuan at dusk. Explore the garden illuminated with lanterns and sit back and relax with a cup of tea in the Tea House.
Saturday 4 June | 10am – 11am
Learn how to make the classic festival snack Zongzi. These filled traditional rice dumplings are vegetarian friendly and wrapped in bamboo leaves for an aromatic and flavoursome treat. | Limited spaces, please email mary.dawson@dcc.govt.nz to book
