Barrier Ninja

After receiving rave reviews at its 2018 Kia Mau Festival premiere, the life-affirming, verbatim play Barrier Ninja comes to Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau.

Barrier Ninja is about hauora/health and weaves together nine very personal stories about experiences with the New Zealand health system – from medical professionals to patients and whānau.

Created by Fran Kewene (Waikato / Maniapoto Tainui) and performed by Julie Edwards (Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Whare).

Sorry For Your Loss

Cian Parker has teamed up with theatre director and dramaturg Laura Haughey, who brings her unique physical approach to storytelling in this original, devised piece of work.

Written and performed by Parker, with live music by Andy Duggan, Sorry For Your Loss is the story of a young woman who is unexpectedly introduced to a father and family she never knew she had.

Suddenly forced to navigate the opinions of her mother, her elderly neighbour, and her classmates she eventually must reclaim her whakapapa.

Parker’s acclaimed autobiographical show about growing up on the mean streets of Kirikiriroa Hamilton in the 1990s is a heartfelt, hilarious, and utterly charming tribute to the power of wāhine toa.

'A beautiful heartfelt piece that defies you not to be moved...' – Victor Rodger

'Brave and engaging. Captivating!' – Deborah Nudds, Toi Wāhine Festival

'A beautiful little pearler' – Theatreview
