In partnership with Southern Heritage Trust, Dunedin Public Libraries is pleased to host this excellent series of inspirational talks, exploring visions of Dunedin’s past and present and, perhaps more importantly, our visions for its future.
March Speakers: Katherine Ward (Principal Urban Designer) & Dr Andrea Farminer (Heritage Advisor) Dunedin City Council.
Dunedin’s Central City Plan (CCP) provides a vision and direction for the longer-term revitalisation of Dunedin’s central areas.
This presentation will examine and discuss the past, present and future aspects of the CCP. It began with a goal to revitalise the Warehouse Precinct through encouraging the repair and adaptive re-use of its heritage buildings, introducing a mixed-use planning approach, with support from a strong urban design contribution from DCC.
Presently, the focus is on the George Street Retail quarter with public consultation and engagement taking place on what, why and how this primary Dunedin street should and can function in the near future in a way that respects its heritage values and sense of place, whilst revitalising and encouraging new retail, living and pedestrian opportunities.
The presentation will round off with a brief look to the future of Dunedin’s city areas and some of the exciting new opportunities that lie ahead.
