The Left Book Club was established in 1936 by the publisher Victor Gollancz, with an aim to resist fascism, prevent war, and promote socialism to combat poverty. The Right Book Club was formed in June 1937 by Christina Foyle. Their aim was to oppose and combat Socialism, Communism, and Left propaganda. A rival to the Left Book Club, it published 134 titles.
Heritage Collections at the Dunedin Public Library is fortunate to have the largest collection of the Left and Right Book Clubs publications in Australasia. They are on display for the very first time!
