Join us on the 30th of July for a Business Briefing session covering the impacts and knock on economic effects of Transmission Gully, scheduled for completion in 2020.

We will be joined by Wendy Walker from the Porirua City Council, James Cootes from Elevate Otaki, Consultant Economist Mike Copeland and Hamish Mexted from the Porirua Chamber.

The Briefing will give you a chance to hear the potential pros and cons for your business, as well as an opportunity to raise any questions you may have. Network with other businesses in the area and find out their thoughts on the impact the Transmission Gully bypass will have on their operation.

We understand that transport infrastructure is of paramount concern for local business.

Hamish Mexted | Founder | Convex Accounting | Porirua Advisory Committee Member
Hamish is the founder of local Chartered Accountants, Convex Accounting. Convex has grown from Porirua, and helps people around Wellington with specific, actionable advice to build their businesses. With offices in Mana and Wellington, Hamish is close to the issues faced by business around the region, across different industries, and in different stages of growth.

Wendy Walker | Chief Executive | Porirua City Council
Wendy was appointed as Chief Executive of Porirua City Council on 1 September 2015. She has overseen the redevelopment of Porirua’s city centre, a repositioning of the city’s visual identity with its residents, ratepayers and residents. Wendy has also provided a stronger focus on resilience as Porirua faces some new challenges including strong residential growth, the impact of Transmission Gully and the consequential impacts on the state highway network, plus some social challenges regarding state housing. Wendy has extensive knowledge working in the public sector, including 18 years at Wellington City Council where her various roles included Director of Strategy Policy and Planning, Director Community Services and Director of Citizen Engagement. She has a strong interest in what makes cities and communities succeed. Wendy, is of Ngati Mutunga ki Wharekauri descent.

James Cootes |Otaki Ward Councillor| Chair - Strategy & Policy | Elevate Otaki, Youth Council, Te Whakaminenga o Kapiti
James Cootes is the Otaki Ward Councillor, local businessman and family man. He’s been in the food industry for 30 years running multiple Cafe/Bakeries and currently owns Kiss and Bake Up in Waikanae, retailing locally and wholesales locally and nationwide. James has been an elected member at Kapiti Coast District Council for the last 12 years, starting at the Community Board and now Ward Councillor and chair of Strategy and Policy committee. He’s been involved in the PP2O and M2PP roading projects from the outset, submitting into the BOI and presenting at the hearings and more recently involved in the Otaki Gateway Sculptures project and Elevate Otaki.

Mike Copeland | Consultant Economist | Brown, Copeland & Co Ltd
Mike’s career has been in the application of economics to various areas of business, including transport economics and resource management matters. He has undertaken a wide range of studies for public and private sector clients in New Zealand and overseas including, assessment of the economic effects for NZTA of the two Kapiti expressways and Transmission Gully for RMA purpose.
