We record all aspects of life in Mokau and the surrounding districts. We have a comprehensive collection of photographs, written records, and artifacts, relating to local family histories (both European and Māori), farming, coalmining, land and sea transport and community services.

We stopped in here on the way back from a holiday in Taranaki and were treated to a personal tour by a delightful old gentleman. He was passionate about the collection of artefacts, was extremely knowledgeable and it was fascinating to listen to his tales. He really should record his stories as they really make the artefacts on display come to life! The museum really has an extraordinarily eclectic mix of exhibits which is well worth a visit.
