The Southland Museum and Art Gallery is a major cultural organisation for the Southland region and serves a population of almost 100,000.
The distinctive pyramid shaped Southland Museum and Art Gallery is located in central Invercargill’s picturesque Queens Park. Exhibitions include the unique Roaring 40’s Gallery - exploring the sub-Antarctic islands, Burt Munro - tribute to a Southern motorcycle legend, Maori gallery and the internationally recognised tuatara breeding colony, featuring Henry who is over 100 years old.
The four art galleries host a range of exhibitions by national and international artists. The very popular community gallery showcases our local talent. Always warm and with plenty of parking, no visit to Southland is complete without visiting the Southland Museum and Art Gallery.
The Southland Museum and Art Gallery is a major museum for the region, and it holds collections of international, national and regional importance. It also offers an active programme of special exhibitions from outside the region.
