Kaan Zamaan, means once upon a time, and was chosen as the name of my gallery, as its wares come from an ancient and proud culture in the Middle East, Damascus, where time seems to have stood still.
My cottons, silks and brocades, woven on traditional looms and worked with the same care as in days gone by, remind us of workmanship and quality slowly being lost in our world where everything is becoming machine made and mass produced.
All crafted individually with timeless beauty, I guarantee that everything you find in Kaan Zamaan is unique and would be hard to find in the Southern Hemisphere, as each item is hand selected from the bustling Damascene "souks" (markets).
A small selection of unframed local art and photography is also on view, as well as Maori bone carvings and engraved stones, all individually and skillfully made.
