A historic engineering factory built by the Hayes family - still in original working order. Famous as the location of Hayes wire strainer. A large double mud brick house can be viewed from the outside as well as other historic buildings. The factory is open to the public as well as a small museum. It is the only one of its kind in original condition in Australia or New Zealand and is now 104 years old.
The site has historical value, as early New Zealand agricultural products which are still used on New Zealand farms were made by the Works. The buildings are of historical interest having been made of mud brick and schist rock.
