Central Stories Museum tells the social, cultural and economic stories of the people, places and events of our rich local heritage.
There is also an Art Gallery with regularly changing exhibitions.
Includes local history research facilities - photographs and archives.
Exhibits include:
-- Geology, Gold mining, Gold Dredging – with a working model dredge
-- Early explorers, Chinese miners
-- Merino sheep
-- Rabbits – with a rabbit hole for you to go in to get a rabbits view
-- Blossom Festival, Horticulture
-- Viticulture
Also see a live display of three of the most critically threatened lizards in New Zealand. See them hunting insects at feeding time on Tuesdays at 11am.
