"midnight walks when my girlfriend and her brother and I would climb out our bedroom windows and meet up to walk around the 'burbs - not getting up to mischief but striding out the teenage angst in the night's mystery and quiet - sometimes we'd steal a bottle of milk but we always left the 4 cents that it cost. Of course our parents never twigged and fortunately no harm ever came to us."

"The best gender power struggle in my life took place between my cat and the Rhodesian Ridgeback across the Street. He thought he controlled the neighbourhood with his growling and barking and generally threatening stance. He was right. The neighbours and their dogs were scared of him. His world fell apart one day when he spied my 6 year old "Rosie" , a delicate mixed breed moggie of burmese origin, sunning herself in the front yard. and decided to take her on. Big mistake. She didn't run and she didn't panic - she waited until he was within striking distance and landed a full set of claws across his most delicate nose. The resulting yelp pierced every eardrum within a five mile radius. He never visited our side of the road again. And Rosie strutted it like the queen she was."
