• Little Bushmen VS APO

    Tue 15 Jul ’08, 11 comments

Sunday night was a cracker at the Auckland Town Hall as The Little Bushmen took on the might of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. I must say, that the "Orchestra sound" kicks ass and i would recomend to everyone regardless of musical taste to treat their ears to some beautiful sounding, organised chaos.
There was a good sized crowd, most of the seating was taken up and the "standing" crowd was respectable enough, although in my opinion i think the show was easier to appreciate when seated.
Having not attended any of the previous "Band VS Orchestra" type gigs over the last couple of months, but read alot of the reviews of the shows, i was wary of how the show would come off. I should not have worried both the Little Bushmen and the APO exceeded all of my expectations. The "drum off" was just unbelivable and the version of Nature of Man will stick with me for a long time yet, in fact i spent most of the gig with my mouth open in awe, waiting for what was gonna happen next.
As the show was being recorded i can only guess that we will soon see a DVD or live CD from the Little Bushmen, i enthusiastically recomend that you get out and get a copy of a creative and interesting, not to mention very entertaining musical recording. You won't be disappointed.

This was a sweet gig and this review pretty much sums it up. I went to the Salmonella Dub vs the orchestra and it wasn't as good as this so Mort55 had reason to be a little worried, but you are right Mort55, you didn't need to have been. Kia Kaha brother.

I haven't been to the Auckland Town Hall before but Mort55's description of the night made me feel like I could have been there myself. I think the review captures the atmosphere of the event perfectly for those that weren't there. So what if the grammar isn't perfect, using emotive and descriptive words makes a review far better than perfect grammar. This review makes me wish that i had have gone to this gig:)

It is sad that Rizzonz feels they have to resort to posting negative comments when their own grammar leaves little to be desired. Oh the shame! Ha ha

    Rizzonz,
You'd think that if you were going to attack Mort55's grammar you would have bothered to perfect your own when writing your, unnecessarily harsh, message.
My opinion is that all these bloggers have written great reviews, and you are tarnishing this competition with your negative attitude.
I like your blog Mort55 - I saw Salmonella Dub and NZSO earlier in the year and I agree, you do walk into a show like this slightly worried about what the outcome of this kind of musical fusion might be.
Keep up the good work Star Bloggers!

hey - you might 'speak from the heart' , but unfortunate it doesn't go anywhere near your head. Learn some basic grammar and how to use it for effect and you'll do a lot better.
For instance, in your sentence "I should not have worried both the Little Bushmen and the APO exceeded all of my expectations" ...it implies that you were somehow worrying the Little Bushmen (maybe they'd read another of your reviews?), but that the APO exceeded your expectations.
Placing a comma / semi or colon / dash, after the word 'worried' would actually give the sentence meaning. Pretty obvious its just your friends giving these comments. Read the Miss Olivia review for some lessons in using language for meaning and effect.
