"Right, so it was New Years of 05/06 and me and a bunch of mates were in Taupo at a bach. The festivities were in full swing, with drunken treasure hunts, merry drinking and bbqs, and the buzz of taupo town upon us.
New Years rolled over and then at about 3 am, me and 2 mates decided to go to town.
As we were on the other side of the Waikato river from town - we walked in round the bridge....getting there at 4 am and finding that all the bars were closed. We were gutted and decided to spice things up a bit by stripping naked...and running down taupo's main street. Cops saw us and started chasing...so we bolted into the park. Being drunk and not thinking straight, we decided rather than to walk home, to SWIM across the Waikato River. So we found some dirty plastic bags on the side of the road, put our clothes along with our wallets, cellphones (one mate even had his passport with him) into these partially broken plastic bags. We then sidled off the end of the jetty, and BATTLED to doggy paddle while trying to keep the bags above the water. Around halfway across we realised we were being swept quite far down stream and started panicking....but kept on trucking and finally made the far shore no where near our place.
We rushed straight up to the spa, and despite the loss of a cellphone or two (one survived i think though!), we had had a good new years adventure! lucky we all made it across...."
