  • "We had only been seeing each other for 3 weeks when Valentines Day rolled around. As a chef, I was only halfway through a 13hour shift when I received a text from him asking me if I wanted to have dinner at his place after work.....I know it sounds ungrateful, but my first thought was, "The last thing I want after such a long hard busy day is having to put on a smile, act like I'm not tired at all and eat his (or anyone elses for that matter) overcooked or even worse undercooked food!" Curiousity got the better of me though (isn't that what killed the cat?) and I replied that I would love to try his cuisine. His answer was, "Sounds like a plan. I don't know about cuisine though. Pea, pie, pud maybe. What time suits you so that I can plan the delivery.............oops I mean cooking time." I was laughing by then so it made the rest of my day seem as if I was running on fast forward. I arrived and was greeted by my beautiful partner wearing a traditional lavalava (I am of Samoan descent & he is European) and buttoned and very well ironed shirt. He showed me to the dining room which was filled with wall to wall lit candles and the table was set very elegantly with all the right cutlery and glassware and flowers. When he showed me to my seat, I saw the hugest bunch of red roses and he poured me a glass of wine. He served me dinner which I saw he had cooked all by himself and it was presented as well as any fine dining restaurant I have been to. The chicken (my favourite) was moist and cooked to perfection and the vegetables were crisp and seasoned just the way I like them with dessert being another of my favourites, good ole cheesecake. We were in a new relationship and yet in a matter of hours, he had shown me that in the short time we had spent together, he wasn't just nodding his head and agreeing.....he was really listening and taking it all in and tucking it away for future reference. This was the greatest and most romantic time in my life. It meant so much to me to see him in a lavalava (as some men think of it as a skirt and that it in some way it makes them less of a man), to be cooked for even though I am very fussy and particular, to not have to lift a finger, to be served ALL my favourite foods and to have them cooked to perfection, candlelight everywhere and soft music in the background and my man telling me how beautiful I look. As I tell my friends, "this one's a keeper" and seeing Phantom of the Opera would give us a much deserved break from his house renovations and my busy work schedule. It would be a memorable moment that we would love to add to the many we already have and the many more we plan to have in years to come. Thanks for sharing everyone."
