My most memorable New Year's Eve was when I was 16 and escaped to Nelson with Friends. Several hundred people were gathered around the reservoir in the camping ground and a man swam out to a small concrete pedestall in the centre .Naked, to the amusement of the crowd ,he rolled up some paper ,shoved it up u know where , lit it and danced wildly. He had just promised to come back next year with coloured flames when the paddy wagons arrived and the crowd dispersed to anyone's tents. It just got better!!!
