    VARIETY OF SPEAKERS AT
    PARIHAKA INTERNATIONAL PEACE FESTIVAL

SPEAKERS at this year’s Parihaka International Peace Festival range from activists and gang members to poets and politicians.
THE Speakers Forum features a dozen guests, covering topics as varied as global warming, Auckland’s Super City, Burmese human rights, the struggle in West Papua, and the 150th anniversary of the Taranaki Land Wars. A delegation representing the Samoan Tsunami Appeal will formally thank the Parihaka Management Trust for its support; last year the trust donated 100 festival tickets to the appeal.
SPEAKERS include Maori Party M.P. Hone Harawira, film-makers Mike Smith and Hinekaa Mako, performance poet Apirana Taylor, and Black Power member and anti-P crusader Denis O’Reilly.

    SMASHPROOF TO PLAY
    PARIHAKA INTERNATIONAL PEACE FESTIVAL

As organisers count down the final weeks to the fifth Parihaka International Peace Festival, they have confirmed Smashproof, for what will be the South Auckland’s biggest gig to date. The trio, who have just returned from an Australian tour, smashed a long-standing record for a New Zealand act in May of this year when their single, "Brother" celebrated eleven consecutive weeks at number one.
Group member Young Sid said, "Playing at Parihaka is a great honour. The people of Parihaka would be the most humble in this world. They are the creators of non-violent action and they've been through more than most people can imagine in the last 150 years – confiscated land, imprisonment, poverty, the list goes on.
“We are very proud to be involved in the Parihaka International Peace Festival.”

Parihaka International Peace Festival welcomes Tiki Taane

Taranaki’s iconic Parihaka International Peace Festival welcomes award-winning performer Tiki Taane, and a full 40-piece troupe to the 2010 Festival.

Tiki’s set will feature his band, the Dub Soldiers, and Te Pou o Mangataawhiri, the kapa haka group formed in 1921 by Te Puea Herangi.

“Parihaka is the one festival I've been wanting to play for years,” says Taane.

“To perform and be a part of something that has so much depth and history is a huge inspiration and honour. To be joined onstage with the powerful Te Pou o Mangatawhiri, this will make it an unforgettable experience that can't be topped."
