Auckland Festival of Photography

This 28 May to 20 June marks the 12th annual Auckland Festival of Photography, the largest visual arts event in the Auckland Region. Alongside the signature programme of prominent national and international talent and the open access Fringe programme is a suite of exhibitions exploring the theme of Truth and Fiction within the 6 Silos in Wynyard Quarter. Included in the theme are international photographers Julia Fullerton-Batten, Dirk Hanus and Maria Kapajeva and a slideshow of work direct from Angkor Photo Festival as well as the Annual Commission by Sacred Hill featuring new work by our 2015 commissioned photographer P J Paterson.
 
The 2015 Talking Culture Symposium (Sat 30th May) in the Auckland Art Gallery auditorium looks at the current popularity of Photobooks with speakers from NZ and abroad and on 2nd June is Whitecliffe Festival Tuesday, the annual circuit of gallery openings with free transport provided. This year’s Signature programme features exhibitions of celebrated New Zealand photographers Lawrence Aberhart and Lisa Reihana in the Auckland Art Gallery and, to co-incide with the 2015 U20 Fifa World Cup, the Auckland Festival of Photography presents “Offside Brazil”, a Magnum exhibition shot over 5 weeks in Brazil during the 2014 FIFA World Cup by Magnum photographers Susan Meisalas, Alex Majoli, Jonas Bendiksen and David Alan Harvey.  Magnum will also be holding Workshops at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design from 28th May to June 1st.
