Kiwi Cinema at the New Zealand International Film Festival in Auckland

Kiwi Cinema at the New Zealand International Film Festival

Playing the field is the modus operandi of the New Zealand International Film Festival. Each year the event brings the variety of world cinema straight from the international festival circuit to the giant screens of New Zealand. The Festival is run by the charitable trust, NZ Film Festival Trust, and is held annually starting in Auckland before travelling to 10 towns and cities around the country.

The line-up is brought together by a team of programmers who attend premier Festivals in North America, Australia and Europe, as well as selecting content from submissions received from around the world. Where possible the Festival presents world premieres of New Zealand films, and remains dedicated to presenting New Zealand premieres of all titles.

The NZIFF is a non-competitive Festival, although for the first time the Best of New Zealand Short Film Competition has been introduced into the programme for 2012. The competition has been developed with the aim of encouraging developing filmmakers by providing this showcase of the best in NZ short filmmaking talent through audience engagement and peer participation.
