Auckland Writers and Readers Festival

Auckland Writers and Readers Festival

The 2011 Auckland Writers & Readers Festival will run from Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 May, 2011, at the Aotea Centre in central Auckland. The Festival is a highlight of New Zealand’s cultural calendar and an iconic Auckland event. It brings together acclaimed international and local writers and thousands of readers for 5 days of innovative programming and a variety of event types: readings, panel discussions, book launches, the infamous “Poetry Idol”, workshops, interviews, parties, music events and many more.

The festival is a celebration of literature and ideas: a concentrated mix of entertainment, fun and intelligent debate. There will be a range of ticketed events, free events and writing workshops on offer and full programme information will be available on our website in March 2011.

The 2011 Schools Programme will run on Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 May. Featuring international and local writers this is an opportunity for young people to connect with the people behind the books they love and to learn more about the craft of writing and develop their skills as readers. Sessions run between 10am and 2pm each day and are 45 minutes long. Student tickets are $10 a day and teachers attend for free.
