'Godfather of Disco' Giorgio Moroder Announces Auckland Concert

Disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder has announced a special one-off show to take place in two weeks in Auckland.

The Italian producer is touring with Kylie Minogue through Australia on her Kiss Me Once tour after the pair collaborated on the song 'Right Here, Right Now'. That song is from his upcoming album 74 is the New 24, which is due for release in autumn and also features appearances from Sia and Britney Spears.

He first rose to fame in the 1970's when he worked with Donna Summer on a series of hits, including 'Love to Love You Baby', which introduced electronic music to the mainstream and earned him the title of "Godfather of Disco". Moroder has sinced worked with some of the biggest names in music: Elton John, Cher, Janet Jackson, Freddy Mercury, David Bowie, Chaka Khan, Cheap Trick, and Pat Benatar.

A recent collaboration with Daft Punk on the song 'Giorgio by Moroder' has seen a resurgence in Moroder's work. 

Opening the evening at Auckland's Studio will be local DJ Murray Cammick, who hosts "Land of the Good Groove" on 95bFM and was one of the early editors of Rip It Up. He also headlined the legendary Strut & Hustle disco clubnight in the '80s.
