Cold Cave New Zealand Dates
Cold Cave is the instrumental project of acclaimed musician, writer and artist Wesley Eisold. The sound of Cold Cave has spanned from experimental industrial noise to rock’n’roll influenced electronic music. Eisold releases his work on his own record label and literary imprint, Heartworm Press. His most recent release, Full Cold Moon is a compilation album of the limited edition singles that were released as stand-alone songs following second album Cherish the Light Years. A full-length album, tentatively titled Sunflower, is due out later this year.
Wellington electronica duo Black City Lights will be the support act for the full People Are Poison tour.

Cold Cave is the electronic music of acclaimed musician, writer and artist Wesley Eisold. Beginning in 2007, Cold Cave has become a name synonymous with the contemporary resurgence of Darkwave and Synth Pop sub-genres, propelling Cold Cave to perform at world class museums The Getty and the Guggenheim, as well as performances with legends Sonic Youth, The Jesus and Mary Chain, among others. The sound has spanned from experimental industrial noise to rock’n’roll influenced electronic music.
According to the Guardian, “Wesley Eisold is an absolutely new, young god of nihilism and despair – he brilliantly captures Cold Cave’s aesthetic: the Morrissey of How Soon Is Now wailing over Nitzer Ebb beats and New Order melodies.”
According to Eisold, if anything, his music reflects what it feels like to live in the present. Eisold, whose baritone is as rich and resonating as that of Phil Oakey, Nick Cave or Iggy Pop, says “Of course we love the lineage of the genre, early experiments with machines to convey human emotion; the marriage between pop and industrial music. At the time it was documenting the early stages of a new world, and we are recording what it feels like to be alive in that world.”
Currently on a full European tour supporting the legendary Nine Inch Nails, Cold Cave's steady rise to prominence in underground circles has created a level of buzz and excitement which is now propelling Eisold's music to the masses of a much larger global audience.
After two full-length albums released by Matador Records including the highly acclaimed Cherish The Light Years, Cold Cave released a series of limited edition singles via Wesley's own Heartworm Press and Deathwish Inc. Full Cold Moon is not a new Cold Cave album, but a compilation of these singles in chronological order on one digipak CD released just this May.
Supporting Cold Cave on their New Zealand and Australian dates are Wellington's rising stars Black City Lights.
With dark voices, neon beats, and ghostly electronics that evoke the apocalyptic modernism of a 1980s Blade Runner, it may come as a surprise to learn that Black City Lights hail from the quiet bay city of Wellington, New Zealand. With traces of Austra, Zola Jesus, and The XX, their progressive and cinematic sound has already captured international attention in little over a year. Comprised of wunderkind producer Calum Robb and power-house vocalist Julia Catherine Parr, Black City Lights create soaring and spacious soundtracks to midnight drives, back-alley cigarettes, and regretful yeses.
Robb spent 2010 lurking in the background of the Wellington music scene, inspired by the bedroom-studio ethos of inexpensive hardware and audio software like Ableton Live. With no musical experience beyond a few years of piano, Robb began picking up production tips from the likes of Daniel Johnston (Red Steers), and was soon writing music late in 2010. Through mutual friends, Robb met Parr, a trained vocalist who was studying music at Victoria University. What started off as a one-track experiment (“Collapsing Horizon”) soon turned into a permanent partnership, with Robb’s expansive, frosty landscapes shimmering beautifully with Parr’s bold and soulful voice.
In March of 2012, Black City Lights released their debut EP Parallels via Brooklyn imprint Stars & Letters. Local and international accolades quickly followed, including copious blog coverage, high-profile support slots, and two prestigious New Zealand On Air grants to fund their videos. Having polished their live set by supporting the likes of Grimes, Baths, and Daedalus, Black City Lights toured the USA for three months in support of their 2013 debut album Another Life, and are currently mid way through their debut UK & EU tour, including multiple appearances at The Great Escape Festival and five shows in support of their compatriots The Naked and Famous."
