Don McGlashan and The Seven Sisters On The Way

Posted: Tuesday, January 1 2008

Don McGlashan is a New Zealand icon in the music world – so you’d be foolish to miss this chance to see him live.

He recently whetted people’s appetites by taking to the stage with Crowded House during their recent Auckland date at the Vector Arena, so it was only a matter of time before Don McGlashan decided to head back out onto the road for the Sunset Sessions.

Along with his band the Seven Sisters and support from Little Bushman, Don will be starting the New Year off by headlining a series of summer concerts, Sunset Sessions, to be held at five iconic North Island destinations.

As one of New Zealand’s foremost songwriters, with five entries in APRA New Zealand’s Top 100 songs of all time, Don McGlashan & the Seven Sisters along with Little Bushman will provide the perfect summer sounds to the backdrop of lingering sunset evenings.

Don McGlashan, will take to the stage with his new band to perform songs from his new upcoming album and from his first solo album, Warm Hand. In addition, the all time favourites; Anchor Me, Dominion Road, Bathe in the River, Miracle Sun, The Heater, Nature and Pulled Along By Love, songs from the earlier days of The Front Lawn, Blam, Blam, Blam and the platinum selling and internationally recognised popular band, The Mutton Birds.

Don's been instrumental in the New Zealand music scene for many years now and has helped many names reach the big time - his most recent influence was on Hollie Smith who made it big with her version of his classic Bathe in the River.

Yes of course Don McGlashan wrote it as part of the soundtrack to Toa Fraser's movie "No. 2" in 2006. And I was there for this concert. The crowd numbers were smaller than expected (but they, this IS Tauranga) but Don & The Seven Sisters were fab. A long-time-ish fan of Don & The Muttonbirds, I had a silly smile plastered on my face the whole time they played. It was so refreshing to hear his songs outdoors and in public - amazing stuff.

If you listen to their new album "Marvellous Year', you'll hear him sing Bathe in The River again - and it's definitely not amature. It's distinctive and emotive and rounds out a great album.

I thought Bathe in the River was Don McGlashan's song - didn't Holly Smith just sing it?

Went to see this well advertised concert in Tauranga thinking itd be a great event....$35?? ok give it a go, support NZ music as you do....only to be incrediably disappointed!!!Three of us paid $105 to watch yes enthusiastic musicians and Don McGlashen slaughter Holly Smiths song the river...ive seen better in kareoke seriously. If you cant sing it, reach the notes dont slaughter it....especially when people paid to see a great concert, not amatuer attempts. SOOOOO dissapointing. Paid alot less to see better...up the level if you expect people to pay for the privialage of you having a not well rehearsed jam session.
