Mercury Rising is nearly upon us as we head up to New Year's Eve.

This year's event at the Coromandel Peninsula looks like being no different - with a fantastic line up which includes Che Fu, Katchafire and The Phoenix Foundation.

However, final preparations are being made on the Dakota Fields which are nearer to Whitianga off SH25.

With two stages and over 15 acts performing from 3.00pm on 31 December to 1.30am on 1 January 2008, it's sure to be a great start to 2008!

We're giving you the chance to win a general admission pass for two people - and a car parking ticket - to this year's event . . . all you have to do is enter your best New Year's Resolution in the comments section and you could be joining in the fun!

Radical changes have been made to the show this year after behind the scenes problems caused very real headaches for those trying to enjoy the event.

Promoter Manolo Echave revealed that the organisation of the bar facilities have been passed on to more experienced operators and the availability of prepaid parking and camping options and ablution numbers have been doubled from Mercury Rising 06.

Manolo Echave said “I was very disappointed at the frustration and holdups patrons had to endure. This is a night of celebration and it is essential that we facilitate an easy and comfortable process in all areas.”

So what have they done behind the scenes to ensure that the only headache you start 2008 off with is an alcohol induced one? Well, this year there will be a VIP ticket option which will give VIP holders an exclusive area with bar facility and confirmed parking with camping options on purchase of the ticket. VIP tickets are restricted to 1000.

In addition to the mainstage concert performances The Mojo Bar will once again host its own independent performance schedule and be open from 4.00pm through to midnight. Toilet and rubbish facilities will be greatly enhanced from those available in 2006 and particular focus is being placed on transport services from central Whitianga to the concert site.
