The Police NZ Concerts

Posted: Wednesday, July 18 2007

The wait for fans of The Police is officially over. Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers have confirmed they will be spending the summer downunder with stadium concerts scheduled in Wellington, Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth this January and February 2008.

With over 1,770,000 tickets sold to date and more concerts to be announced, The Police tour is definitely the hottest ticket of the year. Following the North American tour, The Police will kick off their European tour on 29-August in Sweden for the first of 25 concert events. The Police will then return to North America, followed by concert dates in Mexico and South America prior to their arrival on our shores.

In 1977, The Police stormed the music scene by blending reggae, punk, jazz and rock. Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers created an unmistakably nuanced sound filled with evocative melodies, infectious lyrics and rock & roll swagger. The Police dominated the top of the charts and radio airwaves worldwide with five #1 albums and a succession of top 10 hit singles. In the six years they were together, The Police became one of the world's most famous bands, earning six Grammy Awards and countless fans around the globe.

The band has just released a greatest hits collection, "The Police" (A&M) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their first single "Fall Out". This consummate collection brings together the biggest hits from the band's five original studio albums and includes their very first single, 1977's "Fall Out."

A portion of the proceeds from this tour will be donated to WaterAid, an international NGO, founded in 1981 and dedicated to reducing poverty by improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education. For information, visit: www.wateraid.org.

The Police tour of Australia and New Zealand is produced by The Next Adventure, A Live Nation Company, and RZO Entertainment, Inc. in association with The Frontier Touring Company.

Tickets for The Police are on sale from Monday 30 July 9:00am (local time). Please note there is a limit of six tickets per person.

They already limit the amount of tickets you can buy on a pre sell to 4, so I'm not sure I see the point - seems to me they just hope to make more money out of it. Surely a concert at Western Springs is not the venue to get premiums on - The Police at the Power Station on an auction would draw premiums bids.

I just found out that Ticketmaster are going to auction the premium tickets instead of selling them at face value.

What does everyone else think about this? Will it stop scalping?
