After dashing through the snow on a six-week North American winter tour, Fly My Pretties star and well loved kiwi singer/songwriter Mel Parsons is back in NZ and heads out on the road to mark the release of her new album ‘Drylands’ this April & May, and will make a stop in Wanaka to perform at the Festival of Colour on April 26th.
Equal parts lush and dark, ‘Drylands’ is Parsons’ stunning 3rd full length album and is out April 10th. Recorded at Lee Prebble’s Surgery studio (The Phoenix Foundation, The Black Seeds), in Wellington and co-produced by Parsons and guitarist Gerry Paul (Tim O’Brien), the album features a stellar local line-up including Anika Moa, along with international guests Ron Sexsmith, Vyvienne Long (Damien Rice) and Trevor Hutchinson (The Waterboys).
With appearances at Woodford Folk Festival (AU), Folk Alliance International (US), WOMAD (NZ) already this year, and an upcoming Byron Bay Bluesfest (AU) show with Fly My Pretties, Two-time Tui Award finalist Parsons and her band have a dynamite live show presenting the new album, and is not to be missed. For her Festival of Colour performance Parsons will be accompanied by acclaimed guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Gerry Paul (Tim O'Brien), and rising star of the UK folk scene: Dutch folk singer 'Christof', on bass and harmonies.
