Brian Timothy "Tim" Finn, OBE (born 25 June 1952) is a New Zealand born singer and songwriter. Finn is most known for his music with New Zealand 1970s and 1980s rock group Split Enz, and later for his solo work, a temporary membership in Crowded House and his joint effort with younger brother Neil Finn as the Finn Brothers.

    Not sure if it qualifies, but I first heard the song 'Nothing wrong with you' (which he sings with his brother Neil) at a time when I was really really low - it helped me get through when my self belief was sorely lacking. The song is quite meaningful to me because of that and I still tear up a bit when I hear it.

    I heard 'Better be home soon" as far away as Vietnam on the telly! I couldn't believe it. This brought back memories of home, and I thought about all my friends and family back there. It was one of those moments you don't forget.

    You want me to pluck a burning star from a constellation, each star unique and special to me and explain why this one star is my favorite?
    To see Tim in his home of NZ is well worth a vain attempt:

    "Unsinkable"

    - With it's profound imagery, poignancy and hypnotic chord progression;
    I first heard it live, before rushing out to buy Imaginary Kingdom.
    I have not had such a divinely indescribable reaction to a song before or since.
    All I could do on that night, was scream my lungs out, in the hope that the Burning Star in front of me might just receive my gesture of sincere appreciation.

    Maybe not the most famous tune but one that shows his TeAwamutu rural roots is "Always never now", some of the lyrics such as:
    "It was the best decision that he ever made,
    Now he's living with the consequences,
    He was still a bit green,
    Like a sheep in a ballroom"

    Where else would you find sheep in a ballroom lyrics
    As with all great artists & musical genius's he is there to express himself and if the accolades follow its a bonus - great to see Kiwi Icons refusing to sell out to the popular mass market!

    'Not Even Close' is one of my favourites. The music is stunning and his lyrics are about the need to be your own person.

    Say It Is So is perhaps his best track ever. Being an old school Rock fan, the taste of Beatles style in here brings back good memories. But also I worked in Te Awamutu in the late 60's, and so he has always been someone I have admired.

    Persuasion is one of my favourites. The bittersweet lyrics remind me of the ups and downs of relationships and why we keeping looking for love.
