Scribe is the shining star of New Zealand's much celebrated hip-hop scene. His debut single "Stand Up" reached number 1 in the NZ singles chart after only 3 weeks, staying there for a further 12 weeks (making it the longest running Number One single in NZ history). It has since reached sales in excess of Double Platinum. (Amplifier)
Scribe's second studio album, titled Rhyme Book, was released in Australia on 29 September 2007 and in New Zealand on 1 October 2007. Rhyme Book did not sell as well as its predecessor. It featured a collaboration with New York hip hop artist Talib Kweli (of Reflection Eternal and Black Star fame) on the track "Be Alright".
In 2011, Scribe came clean on Campbell Live, describing how he became addicted to drugs, alcohol and gambling addictions between 2005 to 2007, especially due to Rhyme Book's poor sales. His addiction led to his family denying him access to money, to the point that he had to pawn off many of his platinum awards he won from his debut album. (Wikipedia)
Since splitting with Dirty Records in 2009, Scribe has been relatively quiet musically, but furhter releases are sure to be forthcoming in the near future.
