A scampish folk troubadour dreaming of high seas and low trees, his band The Rumours quick on his heels. Melding wiry country jangle with frail folk balladeering, Miles Calder & the Rumours win your heart and woo your dancing shoes.
Miles Calder started performing country and folk-fed originals in the latter half of 2011. Since his first full band show with The Rumours in November 2011, they now regularly grace the stages around Wellington. Miles' songwriting draws inspiration from folk, country and rock 'n' roll back catalogues, as well as the great modern songwriters.
Miles’ work reminds the listener of modern alt-country and folk legends Justin Townes-Earle and Ryan Adams, particularly his early work with Whiskeytown. The songs are thoughtful, poetic and serene, with The Rumours providing colourful accompaniment to the strong lyrical content.
The Rumours are: Miles Calder, Nick George, Steve 'Sleeve' Moodie, Kirsten Moodie, with help from Matthew Benton.
