Well known artist Alice Lewis has been making a name for herself on the local art scene with several Banks Peninsula exhibitions in recent years. Alice will present her brand of both paintings and sculptures at this exhibition. Alice enjoys the challenge of transforming something she has found to a piece that is aesthetically pleasing. Alice says it takes time to find the right piece of weathered wood that suits the old metal rings I secured from Lyttelton Marina.
Some of Alice's Oamaru stone is well travelled having been to Warkworth and back to Banks Peninsula is gradually being used. Ralph Hotere's work in Gore inspired Alice to start using stencils and left over building paper from under the house. Choosing the paint colours and building them up in layers she finds very satisfying. Keeping an eye out for suitable quotes keeps her busy, but often she will make up a few Haiku poems of her own.
If you are thinking of taking a trip to stunning Akaroa don't forget to have a peak at this wonderful exhibition. You will not be disappointed.
