About Tyler: Tyler Barnett is 16 years old, a student at Marlborough Girls’ College and a member of Marlborough Tap Studio. Tyler is a funny, clever, thoughtful, artistic, crafty and scientific person who loves to learn, and makes friends with all ages, easily. Tyler is a talented tap dancer, having danced and competed for over 10 years. She has recently begun teaching tap to children from aged 8. Tap is one of her passions. She has a deep desire to continue her education through tertiary and medical school and become a general surgeon, like one of her role models.

Tyler suffers from Hypermobile Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), a rare and chronic health condition. The condition causes multiple health issues, but within the last 18 months, Tylers gut health has deteriorated, and she has been diagnosed with Abdominal Vascular Compression Syndrome (AVCS), Gastroparesis, and Colonic Dysmotility. These all cause constant, debilitating pain and nausea for Tyler. She can no longer eat, and is completely reliant on a feeding tube in her stomach to get nutrition. She is bed-bound, with frequent hospital stays when pain gets too much to handle at home.
AVCS is largely improved by a major surgery that is currently not performed in New Zealand. Tyler has managed to get an appointment with the pioneering AVCS surgeon and will be travelling to Germany in March 2024.

Unfortunately, the surgery is not funded, and is set to cost the Barnett family between $120,000 and $180,000. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to the Barnett Family to help with these costs.
