Jonathon Harper is a Classical and Latin guitarist, composer, singer, flutist, Mandolin, flamenco guitar, Maori flute and pan pipe player. He has been a full-time concert performer since 1985, after his first overseas concert in Sydney, Australia. In order to sustain a concert career, he has combined public concerts with tours to schools. In 1988 he was based in Rome, then London in 1989. He often performs with various groups including Latin and Klezmer violin.
After more than fifteen years of constantly touring New Zealand, Harper has built a modest following. The concerts have been presented by: University music departments in Christchurch, Wellington, Palmerston North and Hamilton; Community Arts Councils in Matamata, Taumarunui, Warkworth; Public Art Galleries in Hamilton, New Plymouth, and Wellington (Te Papa) and Music Societies in Taihape, Christchurch, Whakatane, Waikanae, Te Anau (among other centres).
