Auckland Festival of Photography presents Talking Culture - Photobook Friday. 

The festival is pleased to bring to Auckland, for the 7th annual Photobook Friday event - come along to see presentations from NZ artists/photographers, who have published or are in the planning/design phase for their photography books over the past 12 months, while viewing a selection of these books in person.

This is an in-person onsite event in the Helen Clark Room at Ellen Melville Centre, no online participation available.

Madeleine Slavick


Madeleine Slavick shares her book Town published by The Cuba Press, 2024. A hybrid book of prose, poems and 50 photographs of rural Aotearoa.  Slavick lived in Hong Kong for almost 25 years before moving to a Wairarapa country road that runs from state highway to bush.

 

Tushar Sharma 

Tushar Sharma is Founder, Director and Teacher at IMAgEN8. Tushar is a nature photographer, author, educator and conservationist. He has been conducting workshops and publishing books for IMAgEN8 since 2019. Tushar tutored students on the nature reserve workshops, and curated the images, designed and authored the books: Centres of Wellbeing and Little Eyes, Big Perspectives. 


Sheryl Campbell


Sheryl Campbell, Aotearoa Photobook Award joint winner 2022 for her Photobook droplet, shares her book Cherryblond, a 266 page photobook about mature women dating in the digital era and, although a blend of fact and fiction, it follows some of Sheryl's experiences as a single woman. At dummy stage, this photobook talk covers the process as well as the project to date.


Johnny McCormack with Meighan Ellis


Johnny McCormack, Tāmaki Makaurau based photographer and designer in discussion with artist and writer Meighan Ellis; will present the photobook Temporal – a finalist in both the DINZ Best Design Awards 2023 and the Australian & New Zealand Photobook Awards 2024. 


Jon Carapiet


Jon Carapiet has a BA (Hons) in archeology, anthropology and art history from St Johns College, Cambridge University. He also studied photography at Elam School of Fine Art, at The University of Auckland where he graduated M.Phil in 1995. Jon will discuss AI photography and his latest book: Legacy.
