Come hither good peoples for a night of comedy, romance and raw poetry power!

Combining the fast-paced hilarity of improvised comedy and the unique literary challenge that poetry demands, this is a game of two halves!

Southland's latest ensemble of improvisors, Improv Southland, presents a series of games and scenes made up entirely on the spot! In keeping with our Shakespeare in the City festival, the show will incorporate Shakespearean themes, stories and characters. You've never seen these scenes before and you'll never see them again, in true Theatresports/"Whose Line is it Anyway" style.

Then....To Slam or not to Slam? There is no question!

If “thy verse swells with stuff so fine and smooth” then head to SIT Centrestage Theatre. MC’d by poet and actress Penny Ashton (The Tempestuous, Promise and Promiscuity, Olive Copperbottom), local poets will dazzle us with their linguistic sparkle.

Turn up with your poems and be in to win great prizes!

Email shakespearesouth@gmail.com for further info, or to register.

Get ready to have greatness thrust upon you!

Here are The RULES for the Poetry Slam: All poets entering should have at least two poems of three minutes or less. Audience judges will be randomly selected on the night. Poets cannot use props or costume and they will have to stop once the squeezy pig of doom snorts when they have gone over their 3 minute slot. Poems are asked to have a Shakespeare connection BUT this can be very tenuous. There will be two rounds in the slam.

The event is free, but a voluntary donation towards the Shakespeare in the Park Charitable Trust's work would be appreciated.
