This is a one-day class focusing on beautiful Kiln-fired enamels on silver. It is open to students with some experience in either silver jewellery making OR in enamels.
Create a simple textured or fold-formed pendant or earrings in silver, and apply transparent glass enamels to your piece. We will be using a small electric kiln to fire your work, which gives you great control and excellent outcomes.
Being able to fire the enamels in a kiln allows you to have more artistic freedom in terms of which colours you use and the shape of your piece.
Because our Ōtaki studio is small - this means you can take advantage of a smaller class size! Enjoy the peaceful garden around the studio and bring your lunch.
Beginners to silver work can use pre-formed shapes to apply their enamels to so they can focus on creating an excellent result. They will be shown how to apply textures and small alterations to the pieces using either hammers or roll printed textures before prepping the metal for the glass enamel.
Those with some metalwork experience can take on a more advanced fold formed or textured piece. This workshop will not be focussing on Soldered joints with enamels but will use simple loops and folded over bails for connections.
This is to ensure you have enough time to complete and finish your work to a beautiful standard.
