The Miles Crayford/Mike Jensen Jazz Organ Quintet bring vibrant jazz organ tones and boisterous interplay to the Rogue and Vagabond on Sunday April 28th.

Listeners will have a chance to hear new music from their upcoming debut album slated for release later this year that features a modern take on the jazz organ format while still paying respect to its innovators from the past.

“When composing I want to create a world for musicians to explore,” says organist Miles Crayford. “I want to take audiences on a journey that develops organically.”

Musical interplay may be a dying art, but the Crayford-Jensen Group are keeping the flame alive. Their songs highlight the jazz ethos of dialogue in originals from both Crayford and long-time collaborator, Mike Jensen.

“That’s fundamentally why this music is jazz, to my way of thinking,” says Jensen. ““These tunes develop much like a conversation does, and we give each other space to say what’s on our minds.”

Also joining the group for the evening will be the stellar trumpeter Mike Costelo, the gruff tones of Chris Buckland on tenor sax and up and coming guitarist Lockie Bennett.
