Be immersed in this exciting introduction to the art of linocut printing.

Local lino cut artist Levon Parker will guide you through the process of lino cutting techniques, exploring a range of mark making and textures that can be achieved.

You’ll start by transferring your design to a piece of linoleum and learn how to safely use the tools to carve your design. You’ll then learn how to ink the block using Speedball’s non-toxic fabric ink that is solvent free and easy to clean up. You’ll be printing directly onto fabric using a press and hand burnishing. Bring along your clothing of choice – cotton t-shirts are best!

Take home your original upcycled clothing items as well as your carved lino block, that can be printed again and again on both textiles and paper.

This workshop is designed for compete beginners and Levon will give you a full materials list, tips and tricks so you can continue at home.

All materials provided, just bring a simple design to carve and prepare to get inky!

What to bring:
• A simple image to carve to an A5 size piece of lino.
• 3 – 4 items of clothing to print on – cotton t-shirts are the best!
• Apron, or old clothes they don’t mind getting inky.

About the tutor:
I am an artist printmaker living in West Auckland. My current practice consists of relief printmaking using linoleum and woodblock prints onto paper and T-shirts. Drawing and representational imagery forms the foundation of all my work with subject matter including floral forms and fauna from the natural world. I incorporate symmetrical design, mandalas, celtic knotwork and the flowing linear forms of art nouveau style into my prints. I have recently been inspired by “traditional tattoo” style and using bold line work to create a series of linocuts onto tie dyed T-shirts.
