You draw a card. With shaking hands you turn it over. It’s card thirty-one: fledglings. It’s a sign. But of what? Inner darkness? Or the sweet darkness of Valhalla, Wellington’s cherished haven of underground music? Is it a warning of Death? Or the death of an old self? Maybe the past you who used to stay home is being reborn as a highly-fulfilled punter who hits up sweet indie music gigs. Either way, you feel a calling. Your intuition compels you to be at Valhalla on January 31st at 7pm. The mystic sounds of local alt-rock artists fledglings and Midnight Caffeine beckon.

After a six-month hiatus, the haunting alt-rock odes of fledglings return to Pōneke. Their debut single “Awkward Soul”, released in September, is yearning to soar onto the stage. January 31st will be Awkward Soul’s first flight as a fully-fledged track.

fledglings’ music is made for rekindling lost wonder. Their songs are a tapestry of rock, folk, and soul. Woven between ethereal guitar riffing and punchy rhythms are threads of lyrical storytelling. fledglings bring light to the often neglected chambers of the human heart — where demons hide and precious childhood visions lie forgotten. A fledglings set is something to get lost in: a world to visit for mending broken pieces.

To support our ritual gathering of indie music pilgrims, we welcome a band fueled by the thing that Wellingtonians congregate for most: caffeine. Midnight Caffeine are Pōneke-based noise makers sure to make your heart palpitate with excitement.

Your musical destiny awaits. Seize your tickets at UnderTheRadar and seek the inner secrets of this mystical musical soirée.
