Would you like to better understand Te Moana o Atawhenua/ the Fiordland’s marine environment? The Fiordland Marine Guardians and Department of Conservation invite you to join us for a special afternoon in Te Anau, where marine scientists will be sharing their latest findings and insights.
A series of short talks will cover all your favourite (and not so favourite) critters – whales, dolphins, penguins, rock lobster and invasive species – what we are learning about their behaviour, movements, and responses to changing ocean conditions. Scientists will then delve into the physical world, bringing you the latest information about marine heat waves, how water circulates in the depths of the fiords, how the Manapouri hydro outflow is monitored, and how scientists are beginning to appreciate the huge role that Fiordland has in permanently removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.
Meet the scientists, be part of the conversation, and learn how scientific findings help the Guardians and agencies to manage this place for the future.
This is a free event as part of Sea Week. We hope to see you there!
But if you can't make it, don't worry as all talks will be recorded and circulated online following the event on the Fiordland Marine Guardians website www.fmg.org.nz.
