Art Hawke's Bay 16th Annual Exhibition.

This event presents the work from artists and groups across Hawke's Bay in a single exhibition and competition during which all entries are for sale. The competition has prizes in categories such as 'land', 'people' or 'abstract', and there is a 'best in exhibition', the JW Picture Framing 'mystery prize', and a prize for Sculptures and High Schools.

The Exhibition opens on April 29, with the opening night at 5pm with prize giving at 6pm. Category Winners will be announced on the night!

We have secured 2 new selectors for this year and they are Kay Bazzard a Figurative Ceramic Artist and Tryphena Cracknell an artist of many talents - both from Hawkes Bay. They are looking forward to being involved with the exhibiton and we know they will be judging some great artworks from so many talented artists across our region.

Our Selector for Art - Tryphena Cracknell. Tryphena is Te Matau a Maui born and bred. She has spent most of her career working in museums and art galleries as a curator, historian and Kaitiaki Taonga Māori. Her published writing focusses on art, textiles, fashion, Māori arts practice and contemporary jewellery. In recent years, she has worked in conservation, caring for our living tāonga- flora and fauna. She is looking forward to supporting the arts and seeing Hawke’s Bay artist’s creativity in action.

For Sculpture - Kay Bazzard. Kay has a strong interest in the arts which has recently lead her to join the Toimairangi Contemporary Maori Arts School. Kay has had a 20 year career of ceramic sculpture focusing on the human figure exploring gesture, expression and movement - drawing on her emotional history and observation and interpreting moods and behaviours. Her work has been extensively exhibited and is regularly selected for national sculpture awards. Her work is held in private collections here, in Australia, UK and Europe.

Art Hawke’s bay is a non-profit organisation and we are very happy to have Bostock NZ as our main sponsor for 2024. For more information about this exhibition and how to enter, please visit www.arthawkesbay.co.nz.
