The Francis-Lee Duo presents a programme of violin and piano repertoire spanning 130 years. Come and enjoy listening to these two talented musicians and good friends, University of Auckland School of Music graduates Dr Charlotte Francis (violin) and Gemma Lee (piano).

Experience the timeless artistry of renowned classical composers with The Francis-Lee Duo. The programme opens with the wistful Violin Sonata in E minor, K.304 by classical music’s favourite prodigy, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Beethoven’s profound musical influence takes centre stage with his Violin Sonata No.6 in A major and the fiery and dramatic Violin Sonata No.7 in C minor. To add a touch of old-world charm, the concert ends with Kreisler’s delightful Three Old Viennese Dances, evoking the spirit of a bygone era.
The Francis-Lee Duo formed in 2016, and both musicians have gained individual successes in chamber music throughout New Zealand and overseas, as well as having performed together in various venues across the Upper North Island, including the Auckland Central Library, The Danish House, Waiheke Musical Museum, All Saints Howick, Waikato Museum, and the Hokianga Music Society. Having enjoyed previously working with each other in the University of Auckland as administrative staff, the two decided to collaborate musically with long-term professional intentions.
Charlotte Francis (violin) grew up in Brisbane and began learning violin and piano from the age of five. She holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the University of Auckland and a PhD in Classics from the University of Otago. She has performed both as solo and ensemble performer throughout New Zealand and taught violin for the Marama Strings Project. Charlotte currently manages a busy violin studio in Royal Oak.
Born in South Korea and raised in New Zealand, Gemma Lee (piano) is a collaborative pianist with a Master of Music (First Class Honours) from the University of Auckland. She has performed in venues across the United Kingdom and Europe, including at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Goldener Saal of the Vienna Musikverein. A firm believer in the power of music education for all-round development, Gemma currently manages Lewis Eady Music School which delivers music lessons to up to 1,000 students across Auckland and Wellington.
