Waiheke Musical Museum are delighted to present Calathea Quartet: A fresh new string quartet comprised of dynamic musicians from New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, and England. This concert is presented in partnership with Chamber Music New Zealand.

Calathea Quartet
Claudia Tarrant-Matthews (violin), Eleanor Hill (violin), Martha Campbell (viola), Haydn Wynn (cello)

Originally from New Zealand, Claudia Tarrant-Matthews holds a Bachelor of Music in piano and violin performance from the New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī, a Master of Arts in violin performance from the Royal Academy of Music and is currently undertaking a Professional Diploma at the Royal Academy. She has been a casual member of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra since 2018 and now regularly plays with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Australian violinist Eleanor Hill completed her Bachelor of Music at the University of Queensland and recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Master of Arts. She has toured internationally on several occasions, performing in notable venues like the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Guangzhou Opera House in China and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Since moving to London, Eleanor has performed with the Orpheus Sinfonia, London Orion Orchestra and Resonate Chamber Orchestra. In 2020, she was also selected for the Berlin Opera Academy on full scholarship and the Hori Musiktage Festival in Switzerland.

Irish violist Martha Campbell completed her postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music in 2021. She holds an undergraduate degree from the CIT Cork School of Music and the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar through the Erasmus exchange programme. Martha has performed at many of Ireland’s major festivals, including the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Finding a Voice Festival, and Chamber Music on Valentia. Orchestral experiences include work with the Ulster Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.

Haydn Wynn grew up in rural Gloucestershire where he first started playing cello. From there he studied at Junior Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with Ioan Davies before earning a scholarship for the undergraduate course. He completed his degree with Rose Boss, finishing with first class honours. Whilst at RWCMD Haydn was successful with a previous quartet, winning concert opportunities and prizes within Wales. In 2021 Haydn completed his Master of Arts with distinction at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Felix Schmidt. As well as playing with the Calathea Quartet, he now freelances as a string writer, arranger, and cello teacher in London.
