4 long years since their last tour, The Frank Burkitt Band are returning to stages across Aotearoa for a 5 week tour in January and February 2023

Since 2014, the band have already completed 5 extensive NZ tours, performing well over 100 gigs, selling out shows in every corner of the country. Their debut album (Fools & Kings) reached no.12 on the Official NZ Music Charts and in 2019, their second album (Raconteur) landed them the Vodafone NZ Music Award (Tui) for Best Folk Artist.

Older but not much wiser, the last few years have seen Frank and Kara re-settle in the UK, release their first home recorded album (Silvereye) and when pandemics have allowed, perform around the UK as an intimate duo. They haven’t stopped missing New Zealand and are ecstatic to be returning.

Joining Frank and Kara will be Robert Henderson on double bass (Wellington Shake-em On Downers) and Cameron Burnell on mandolin and slide guitar. Cameron is also a founding member of the amazing Americana outfit T-Bone, who recently took NZ by storm as part of their Good ‘N Greasy album release tour. And for a few select shows, the band will have an extended line up including Oscar Laven on horns (Wellington Shake ‘Em On Downers), Louis Thomson-Munn on keys (Diver Records) and Kim Bonnington on backing vocals (You, Me, Everybody).

The show will feature Frank’s most recent songs; stripped back, pensive folk ballads that are a result of too much time spent with one’s own mind and a yearning for the interaction and pace of the world that was. Self-indulgent yes, but intimate, honest and heartfelt. The band will also be performing a choice selection of their brand of foot tappin’ Americana, complete with harmonies, horns and rambling anecdotes to get you in the mood.

With a mixture of duo and full band performances, they will be travelling through Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Northland, Hawke’s Bay and beyond so grab your tickets now!

” If you were to look for reference points to compare this music with, you might end up with Boz Scaggs,
later James Taylor, Martin Stephenson, and maybe Tim O’Brien but none of these are close matches. If
you buy this CD (Raconteur) buy it for itself. It has a touch of class.” Johnny Windle, Stirrings Magazine

“Music that nods towards the likes of Pokey Lafarge or, in lighter moments, a country-tinged Pentangle.
An album of genuinely good songs delivered by a fine sounding bunch of musicians.” 8/10 - Rick Bayles, Americana UK

“The band’s vocal harmonies are tight, spot on and a delight. Soulful music that confounds to the end.” **** Marc Higgins, Northern Sky Magazine

“The sincerity and heart that emanates from his song writing is endearing, to say the least. I believe
people who are truly great at their craft make what they do seem easy” Janise Kumar – muzic.net.nz

‘A unique, rootsy sound which lies somewhere between country/ Americana and swing and jazz music.‘ Christopher James Sheridan – Folking.com

“Exceptional”
Graham Reid – elsewhere.co.nz
