A true East-meets-West collaboration. Shades of Shakti's music combines intricate fast melodies, virtuosic rhythms of the tabla and percussion, expansive raga and the hypnotic tones of the sarangi, a highly resonant, ancient bowed instrument of India.
This tour features Indian based Maestro, Sangeet Mishra, who comes from a long line of sarangi masters from India's holiest city, Varanasi. Considered a prodigy as a child, Sangeet has endeavoured in his career to revive ancient musical styles. An innovative musician, he has performed with leading artists in India and around the world, successfully employing a contemporary approach to the sarangi without compromising its traditional purity and essence.
Shades of Shakti is made up of some of New Zealand's finest musicians, Justin Firefly Clarke (guitar), Tristan Carter (Violin) and Thomas Friggens (percussion and drums), and from India, Basant Madhur, a much-respected artist of classical Indian Music on the tabla.
This not-to-be-missed performance aims to bring communities together and celebrate human diversity through music.
