Sew a Drawstring backpack in this children’s beginner sewing workshop. Once you’ve made your backpack, there will be no need to carry a bag. You can just wear it and be hands free! These bags are a current craze, they’re not too big, super comfortable and carry all the essentials or extra’s. The Drawstring Backpack is ideal for carrying dance gear, gym gear, swimming gear or just the perfect size for snacks and a drink.
In this Sew a Drawstring backpack workshop kids will get started exploring the first steps to sewing. They will finish the session with a usable machined drawstring backpack. We sew using our very safe hand crank machines. Children will learn how do sew French seams so the bag ends up nice and tidy inside and out. This is just the beginning to sewing! If your child likes this session, then there a lots more opportunities including making a tote bag, a patchwork cushion or a bespoke pillowcase to lay their heads down on at night.
In this Sew a Drawstring Backpack workshop we will provide everything needed along with funky fabrics to choose from. An easy project for an absolute beginner to sewing.
Gracie Mathews is the best tutor to teach your child, she oozes enthusiasm for everything textile. In addition to teaching and travelling New Zealand for a fabric supplier she has her own business offering a variety of costume and sewing services including hire, manufacture, costume and sewing experience packages and continues to share her personal costume and textile collection through symposiums, events and exhibitions.
Who is this workshop designed for?
This sewing workshop is suitable for any child aged 8+. Please do not register children under the age of 8 in this class.
What to bring & know?
A water bottle and snacks.
All sewing materials and equipment is included in the fee.
Please me mindful that different children have different abilities which result in different outcomes from our one-off workshops.
