New Year's Eve in the Octagon has your countdown to 2024 covered!

Join MC comedian Ben Hurley from 6pm for a fun evening filled with the very best of family friendly entertainment.

Featuring international circus performer Yldor, Otago Smokefree Rockquest runners up Valetta, mother/daughter duo Em and Me, Dunedin's finest musical trio The Foxy Tones, Americana Folk duo Matt Joe Gow & Kerryn Fields, and count in the new year with Shakes and The Troublemakers!

The kids get their very own countdown show at 9pm, there’s plenty of kai from the food trucks available, and from midnight you can enjoy an amazing visual light show from international company Perceptual Engineering projected onto the Regent Theatre and Bacchus Restaurant!

Ben Hurley

Winner of all the major comedy awards including the coveted Billy T Award, and the NZ Comedy Guild awards for Best Male Comedian and Best MC. With a hugely likeable stage presence, Ben has wowed audiences from around the globe!

Yldor

Yldor Llach trained at the Montreal National Circus School. His show captures attention and generates smiles, with the magic of the surprise. The artistic bicycle is the main element, on which acrobatics, dances, balances, and movements of all kinds occur in his performance.

Valetta

Formed in 2021 the Taieri College band features Reef Tamihana (vocals) Isaac Wirangi (keys) Charlie Brough (lead guitar) Cameron Lord (rhythm guitar) Chiara Compton-bray (Bass Guitar) and Tyler Little (drums). This year the band came second in Otago for the Smokefree Rockquest competition, while also winning the best song award, and coming highly commended in the Tangata Beats section of Rockquest.

The Foxy Tones

With their rockin' harmonies and fierce vocals the Amanda Goodwin, Nikki Anderson and Cath Short dish out the tunes with their unique style and flair.

Em and Me

A mother/daughter duo featuring Amanda Goodwin and her daughter Emery. Performing upbeat funky children’s music from their latest album.

Matt Joe Gow & Kerryn Fields

With multiple awards to their names and thousands of miles between them, Americana Folk duo Matt Joe Gow & Kerryn Fields are steeped in Alt-Country and Folk influences. Building their sound around acoustic instruments and honest song writing while devouring records from Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Neil Finn and more.

Shakes and The Troublemakers

Shakes and The Troublemakers are a punchy four-piece surf rock band well known around Dunedin for their fun antics, grooving originals and old school covers (Bowie, The Stones, Beach Boys to name a few). Featuring Chris Prendergast Shakes on guitar and vocals, Pottley Mostly on Bass, David Prendergast (BAD) on lead guitar and Alan Metcalfe (Red) on drums, Shakes & The Troublemakers are a powerhouse unit that know how to put on a show.

Perceptual Engineering - Visual Light Show

At midnight enjoy an amazing five-minute visual light show. Celebrating Dunedin, the show will be projected on to the Regent Theatre and Bacchus Restaurant by international company Perceptual Engineering.
